You can view the Ebay page here :-

From the picture and the description that the seller has given, would you say that it appears to be ok ?

Thanks for that reply Del, I will now be able to have a good nights sleep knowing that

The flat on the shaft won't make a scrap of difference to the balance. It's too small and too close to the centre of the shaft to effect any imbalance issues.

Yeah Speo that WAS my question, how does the flat bit effect the balance
speo Posted - 30/04/2008 : 20:42:40
I thought your question was if this flat on the shaft can cause the imbalance, not the blades and the whole rotor. That's a different story.

It seems to spin ok Speo when attached toa 12 v battery, but I suppose you can only know for definite when the blades are on it and it's all set up.

Hook it to 12V or even 24V and see if it's imballanced when spinning.

I received my Ametek this morning. This is the flat on the shaft, is that ok would you say or could it cause balance probs ?

Nice one Hef, I will send it off to you asap. I assume you will fit it with some blades too and send it back to me as a fully functional wind turbine

Steevo, the flat on the shaft is good, provides a more positive location for the grub screw that locks the hub (which you'll have to make to fit) on to the shaft.
Don't worry about having no garden, send it to me as I've just built a chassis and have a very windy location to give it a very thorough testing for you

Thanks for your reply Del, and hopefully everything will be fine and yeah I did get it for a pretty good price

In the description, it says that "the shaft has a flat ground on it for a pully adaptor grubscrew". Is this normal or does it mean that the "grubscrew" is missing and that I need to obtain one if I am gonna use it for a wind turbine ?

Unfortunately, I dont have a garden so I am not gonna be able to be able to use the wind turbine (when I built it) BUT I am doing the research and the building of it with the assumption that in the future I will be able to use it one way or another.

The Ametek will be fine. They need about 350rpm to get to 13v (cut-in) but as long as you're in an area with decent dind it'll be spot on. Good price too.

Cheers

Del.
