Hi, new member here,very slow when it comes to computors,so hope I get this right. Started reading this forum this last winter, and what can I say, I am hooked like the rest of you. Just finished my second small wind generator, so I thought I would show it, tail pivots for furling, 6 foot rotor, charges my 24volt system with 4 90watt solarpanels. 24 1" x 1" x 1/2" neos, dual rotors. Not sure if my pictures are legal size.

Gholt,the elbow coming down is 1 1/2", and has a 1 1/2" pipe screwed in it that slips into a 2" pipe(white), so the elbow sits on the 2" white pipe. I think the 2" pipe use to be a flag pole at one time. I put some grease in where the elbow sits, and it rotates almost to good. Yes the weights on the tail are adjustable for early furling, and seems to work prety well. In strong winds the tail is almost sideways, but still tracks the wind pretty good. I used a go-cart hub for the mag rottors, which is a lot smaller than the trailer hubs normally used. I was thinking of using the trailer hub, but it seemed to big for this one. The copper wire is salvaged from two electric motors from the dump, I think it is 18g, and the stator has 9 coils with 120 turns per coil. Might try another with 100 turns for better amps. Next project is a biger tower, maybe use three tree posts in a teepe stile for good strenght, cause I have lots of smaller trees that are straight and long. |

I like the way you thought out your furling system....
Am i right thinking you add extra weights to the bottom of the tail to keep your genny pointing into the wind ?...nice simple idea.

Victor, my solar and wind power fuel my small house, small system, but plenty for two people. We get plenty sunshine here during most of the time, but winters can be a problem, that is why I started messing around with wind power. I have a small gas generator, but hate to hear it and smell it . I want to build a bigger wind genny before winter, the one I just finished works great, but my 4 l-16 batteries just need a bit more. We have lived on solar power for almost ten years now, and are very happy with it . I highly recommend solar power for everybody, just start small, cause it's about how much power we can save, not use. Solar is great, wind is great, and together they are excelent. |

Welcome to the forum!! Great setup!! I`d like to have a good solar array like that !!
Tell me! What do you use your free electricity for? Cooling fans or lighting?
I`m currently saving up for some solar panels and was wondering how well they work and charge batteries!!

Hello westwinds and welcome.
You have a nice setup there, it will be good to have someone with dual rotor alternator experience here.
Your images size is fine, 640 x 480 pixel is the max dimensions.
