If that Seiko Otari doesn't get bid up I might take a crack at it. As it in Canada and I escape about $30 worth of charges.

Cheers!

You're welcome BW,

I did have a plan to bid on the 99VDC as i have a friend on myspace that was prepared to have it sent to her and then she'd ship it on to me but since I've found out that it "doesn't do what it says on the tin" (English ism) I've told her not to bother. The last one that sold on ebay earlier this year (March I think) went for $279.

I'm intregued on the SEIKO OTARI 30VDC motor as well. I wonder what it's like as a generator. Anyone feeling brave enough to get one?

Cheers

Del.

BTW Del thanks for the info on both Ameteks. You may have to change your Avatar to a blood hound. ;)

This is crazy! Four hours to go and someone has this bid up to $256 US. If I add in S&H this would be up to $313. For $350 CDN I can pick up a 1/2 HP, NEW in the box, 180V 1725 RPM unit from Aucklands and have a place to buy parts.

I dug around a bit on the SEIKO OTARI 30VDC and see it has been used for tape drives. this Ebay listing (http://tinyurl.com/ypgkk4)only has two days to go with 0 bids.

I know that motor has been brought up here before but I'm wondering if anyone might have some new information.

Cheers!

Hi all,

There seems to be some conflicting info about the Ametek 99VDC around.

Take a peek at the following (both from tlgwindpower)

http://tlgwindpower.com/ametek.htm

This one says it makes 99v at 535 rpm but if you click on th output data link you get this page

http://tlgwindpower.com/Ametek99data.htm

This page says it's only getting into charge territory at 350rpm.

Just done a bit more googling - check this data out

http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2004/4/23/13245/9108

535rpm is not correct. It needs 2156rpm to achive its V max. Therefore, 13v is gonna need 300rpm. So the boss may not be all it's cracked up to be after all.

Cheers

Hi bushwacker
I did contact the seller of the ametek 99 "the boss", but only to see if he does delivery to the u.k, in order to pass on the contact to other gotwinds that may be interested, but he wasn't interested in delivery to u.k, so I'm not bidding on the 99, since i have the 30v and need to see what's going to happen with this one, looks promising anyway.

Hi Bushwacker,

I stripped my Ametek 30VDC down a couple of weeks ago and can confirm they have ball race bearings in them. If you even need to strip yours down let me know and I'll post something on the forum to explain how to put them back together!

Cheers

Hi SW,
I spoke to the seller of "The Boss" and he made reference to you (I believe) so I will not bid against you. (professional courtesy???)

It would seem that the gent who brought in "The Boss" has a whack (whole bunch) of Ametek motors, but the majority are the 60 VDC at about a billion RPM (may as well be!) claiming they are good windmill gen units (if you live in a wind tunnel?). BALDERDASH!

I'll pick up a 30 volt unit instead (I hope) as it will only be for my trailer (caravan) and a pet project (12 watts) at home..

Does anyone know if the Ametek 30 VDC runs on plain or ball bearings? This will decide what kind of turbine I will have to build.

You guy's are like crack dealers hanging out near a playground. My friends are starting to think I've gone nuts! ADDICTION!

As mentioned before, I'm including some British terms as most of this board seems to be from England. The reason I know them is I married a "Brummy". No sarcasm intended other than "a billion RPM" , and "If you live in a wind tunnel".

Us colony folks talk that way sometimes. :-)

Cheers,
BW

HI Bushwhacker
You can still buy the ametek 30v quite easily from the e-bay website in america, I have noticed that there is a member named lisa-surplus that sells them by the bucket, the bad news is that she doesn't do delivery to the u.k, however to canada i don't see any problems, my ametek camme from a fella called nasfera, but I notice that he hasn't had one for sale since, but lisa surplus, seems to be able to get her hands on 3 at a time for sale every 3 to 4 days.
see u buddy
keep up the good work

I've got an Ametek Motor distributor in my town trying to track the 30 and 99 volt models directly from Ametek. Dave was extremely help full and dug through his books like a badger. It sounds like both models are long forgotten but if anything comes up I'll pass along the word.

Does anyone know the real application those motors were built for?

Cheers!

The 99 volt Ametek is just an extended 30v motor - 7" in length and very rare....

It might be time to look into 3 phase motor conversions - Fungus has some good knowledge in this area - It can require a bit of machining though but has good results.
