Posted - 13/03/2008 : 14:37:22 Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the name of the Taiwanese dynohub manufacturer mentioned here is?
http://www.gotwind.org/modified_windgen.htm
I was also wondering if anyone had ever attempted/had any success making a small Vertical axis turbine?
I am thinking of trying to build one out of a few sections of plastic pipe, split length ways and attached to a mount top and bottom.
I am looking to make something that looks a bit like this http://www.pacwind.net/#sea
Any comments on the plan?

Posted - 30/09/2007 : 07:12:18 Hi Dave, I have the good fortune of a great relationship with a metal scrap yard. Every visit I make there I'll spend upwards of 1/2 hour and sometimes a couple of hours scouring the heaps of metal the whole time thinking of the various projects I have on the go and what I need to make them.
A good imagination and a bit of foresight goes a long way towards gathering the "right parts". Keep your chin up and use your best judgement when collecting parts.
If you want I can share some photo's of what parts I have collected and tell you what I was thinking of when I bought them. This wind energy thing is a tinkerer inventors dream. If something good comes of it, all the better. I intend on being able to tell my electricity provider "No thanks, I don't need your power." in a couple of years.
Rome wasn't built in a day Dave. I takes time and effort.
I hope this helps, BW

Posted - 14/09/2007 : 17:45:06 Hi ime new to this forum and Ive just been reading some of the above about dump it sites, ive been trying to put together a turbine project for a couple of years now i thought it was going to be simple when i started"car alternator attach blades charge batteries and off we go"how wrong i was.so rather than keep buying things that don't work Ive gone back to school for a year or so and as Ive only had the Internet for a few months its not been easy. The point Ive eventually got to is if i could have accessed my local tip as a few years ago not only could i have built my turbine i could have had a wind farm of my own for virtually nothing"so much for recycling and saving the environment. Posted - 31/08/2007 : 09:20:49 Yeah I can agree freecycle is very handy for all kinds of stuff. be quick and be polite though as there are usually loads of people all wanting the same thing. You can also post 'wanted' notices on there too.
Cheers

Posted - 30/08/2007 : 20:25:16 If in the UK try a search for freecycle, its a website on which people give stuff away rather than taking it to the local tip. I got some printers from it to look for stepper motors. Allsorts on it. |

This is one of the best things. The amount of stuff that is in the trash is the best stuff to use. It`s free.I got two pentium processors out of a skip a few years back when the University chucked out computers. One of the hardrives was in tha machine too and not formatted.
I also got a lot of wood off pallets in a computer factory I was working and did all the edging in my garden with it. It was thick wood and really looks the part.
I tent to try and save things I find when other folks just think your mad....
This all started in the year 200 when a friend at work seen a massive machine go into a factory and all the wood was lying outside in the rain for the bin.He asked to get it and took it all away after the manager allowed it...
He invited everyone up to his house 5 months later to see his new shed and gazebo..... CRAFTMANSHIP LOL LOL |
