If You Had £300 Spare...
Would you buy a Navitron 200 watt for £325
or a
Ruland 503 with controller ?
Or would you make your own of plans etc.

never actually tried spinning by hand . i put mine on my cordless drill easily reached 12v but no idea of rpms. |

I have an ametek 38v motor, and when I connect a volt meter to the black/white wires and spin the shaft I'm only getting about 0.5 of a volt, surely this cant be right?

hi mark i would invest in a solar panel maybe 55w to 70w and go down the diy road .my ametek is capable of producing double the watts and amps of the rutland motor costs about 50 quid to get motor shipped to door. johnys hub 15 quid. bens blades about 15 quid including pipe old swivel chair for the pivot scrounge scaffold tube from local builder your well on your way to a turbine for under a £100

Well I wouldn't spend £325 for the China (Navitron and all the others) 200W turbine. £200 + delivery is more the mark and that includes charger and tower. About £115 for just the turbine.
I quite like the baby Rutland for it's compactness and durability. Only 60W (actual not theoretical from shorted amps bench tests), but quite a nice unit if you can get it to spin well.
I think for £300 I could do a LOT better with the Futurenergy generator and make my own chassis and blades.
