I need a new hub...
Came back after a few days away for christmas to find my wind gen without blades..
Looking around I found one in the corner of our garden, then one of the neighbours called across to say he had one of the other, on the way to bring it to us he found another blade in the next door garden ...
I'm sure feeling lucky I have good neighbours.
The hub was the weak spot on this and I should have known better, just a bit of plywood with the blades screwed to it..
There was barely any damage to the blades except two chips on one of them so I can still use them.
Jonny - put me down for a hub ...

It's steel Ben. And I've filed a notch out of my Amtek motor shaft for the grubscrew to go into.
I did think of welding it on but I wanted to use the pulley with different hubs so decided to use the three bolt method.

Thanks

Del.

Hi Del.
Is that pulley alluminium or steel?

If it is alluminium, I would be a bit careful particularly with the single grub screw fixing.
One U.S guy informed me he actually welded a steel arbor to his Ametek motor shaft for extra strength.

Yawing is the largest force on the arbor and can be considerable.

Ben.

It's definetely a case of when and not if a wooden hub will fail. Good job the blades didn't cause any damage when they made their high speed bid for freedom. A speared cat may not go down well with the neighbours.

If there's anyone out there that would like one of Jonny's quality hubs but can't afford the minimal price then there are alternatives. I currently use old circular saw blades bought from boot sales for a few pence. My arbour is an old pulley with a 5/8" hole so fits perfectly on the Ametak shafts.

Jonnys hub/arbour are very well made and do a fantastic job, well worth the money. Lets put money in jonnys pocket rather than impoting them from the USA.

Reduce your C02, go Green.

i`m just been out my garden too. All batteries well charged. TURBINE BLOWN APART!!! LOL

I`m not going to bother with the pictures, but the blades stayed in one piece and it was basically a case of me not NUT AND BOLTING the thin piece of wood to the dynohub!!

Overall Fungus and myself are located close to each other. I reckon the winds were easily 40+ miles an hour and peaking early in the morning!!! Aluminium pole show slanting!!! LLOL That must have been a small windstorm!!

A johhny hub is needed here too as i have 2 ameteks coming..
