Posted - 07/03/2008 : 20:14:05 I had a thought about doubling the output voltage on the Novatech dynohub - (it is the Chinese copy of the dynohub, shimano hubs e.t.c) Low powered, approx 5 watts, bit of fun really.
As it is single phase,it is just a spool of wire essentially, and easy to disassemble and rewind for higher voltage, 12v. You could measure the diameter of wire and buy some half the gauge, and rewind it, counting the winds may be necessary, but if you just fill the same area with the thinner wire, it shouldn't be far off. http://www.maplin.co.uk/free_uk_delivery/Enamelled_Copper_Wire_44/Enamelled_Copper_Wire_44.htm
It will still cog, but cut-in should be a lot less, not tried it myself yet though.
Ben.
