Posted - 13/04/2008 : 15:16:20 I have a stupid questions for you guys....
Would it be possible to say use one of those 12 volt cheap solar panels to power an amatek generator motor?
I mean the really cheap solar panels can produce 12 volts. enough to power say a 12 volt motor that in turns powers the amatek generator.
I am new here so please excuse me if I have asked a really stupid question.

Posted - 13/04/2008 : 21:39:24 I'm glad that is sorted out Larry.
I also went down many wrong roads before I 'found' the internet and in particular the U.S fieldlines forum. There's a huge amount of knowledgable contributors on that forum, but maybe oversubscribed now which can cause problems with repetitive questions.
That's why I started the gotwind forum - reading prior posts on both forums will answer almost all questions, patience and persistance is what is required.
Your URL is fine, as it is renewable energy related.

Posted - 13/04/2008 : 18:05:58 Thanks Ben, That was what I was thinking but was not too sure. I will not try it now as I am running low on money with all my projects for wind and solar going;-) Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I am trying to update my blog with video so others can see what I am trying and what works and what I could not get to work. (http://larrylawrencejr.com)(Please remove the url if not allowed)
Thanks again.

Posted - 13/04/2008 : 16:10:52 Hi larry. I think what your asking is a not a good idea. It would be a hugely inefficient to try and drive an ametek motor from a solar powered second motor.
The power output from the ametek compared to the input power, very roughly would be about a 1/10th or less. e.g Would you exchange 10 dollars for 1 dollar - probably not...
Best to stick to a wind powered ametek or a solar to battery set up.
Hope this helps.
Ben.
