For the last few weeks I have been monitoring my livingroom temp. I found that if I keep my curtains open during the day and my vertical blinds closed I can bump up the room temp by as much as 5 degrees.
Normally my living room temp is around 15c ,but tonight it`s well up to 19c just by doing this small experiment.
I feel anything around 15c to 20c is fine in my livingroom without any additional heating.
Basically i`m running my house without any central heating now.
Luckily the livingroom window side of my house hits the sun from 11pm to 4pm with good heat entering the house.. After 5pm I shut the curtains to keep the heat in...
What do you think of my idea? It`s been working and also saving me money. No heating on now all day!! Saving me money.. Right now it`s 10.11 and the temp is around 18c.

In the winter time I am quite happy with 20c to 21c (68f to 70f here in the states), in the summertime 24c to 25c works ok.
We have a sliding glass door on the south side of the house as well as a large window in the bedroom on the south side, the kitchen and bedroom will often heat to 26c to 28c during the winter months, I use a homemade dc fan and pv to attempt to push that heat into the front room and hallway during winter days.
It does seem to help on sunny days for sure.

I just worked out that 19c is a comfort level around the house.
21c is supposed to be +10% wasted energy.
23c is supposed to be +20% wasted energy.
I also found out that overheating a room by 1c increases your fuel costs by around 6% or more..
Please folks add to the list of your temp around your living room. I`m sure superwindy knows his too..

I'm at 23.6 deg C just now .. usually its much colder though .. got a minimum of 14.4 deg .. and this is a loft room with a velux window .. exposed on all sides though so when theres any wind it chills down immediately .. |

What with rising energy prices, any solar help has to be good Victor.
Today has been particularly mild in the midlands - even I have shed a layer of clothing.
I can recommend a Velux roof window, if it is appropriate - not cheap, but very worthwile, it warms my southern facing bedroom nicely.
