Hi All,
Just a quick question: what do you do with the electricty you generate with your wind generator?
My dynahub generator (now in Mk II guise) goes live this afternoon and I was wondering what to do with the juice...
What do you guys do?

When my geney is finished I plan on running a dusk-dawn outside light with it. Then as they get more sophisticated and bigger, Who knows!

Good question Rich.
With the dynohub, the best you will see from it is 5 watts, over a 8 hour day this can be as much as 5 x 8 hours = 40 watt/hours.
Therefore it could give you one hour drawing 40 watts, or 4 hours drawing 10 watts.
I would use this power for illumination, maybe an LED project, similar to one I made or even lighting a couple of 12v CFL 7 watt lamps in a room would be one use.

Other applications might be electric water pumping, powering a small tv or radio system.
I must admit I have had times where I've had to look for things to power because my battery's were full - Not a bad situation to be in.....

Thanks - eBay just delivered a bag of 50 10mm white LEDs so it looks like I'm thinking on similar lines.

I plan to run 2 dynohubs soon...... the 1966 ones are fantastic for some reason....I`m checking the junkyard 2 miles from my house on a constant basis.....I have around 20 motors here and testing them in a pile....well from microwaves washing machines and so on ......
ooh!! Yes!! 2 dynohub turbines run here 80% of the day fine......I`m using the power for small tube lights in the hut.....and also a Dab radion in the house most of the day.....just changing over batteries when the one in house gets low........
3 small 12 Volt batteries charging on by one iun rotation.....
If my setup gets improved......garden lighting and house lighting is my main areas I want the stored power used for in the future.......
Small energy efficient lights in the living room would really cut down my electricity....... 11 watt energy saving bulbs at night would be great.........

| I plan to run my tv (200watts) and dvd (only 15watts) from 1 or 2 85a/h leisure batteries. I'm unsure of what kind of size inverter I would need (newbie type question) and how to regulate a wind turbine with the solar panel I have (only 12v/6w at the moment). Would like to eventually run my domestic lights but would be unsure of how to add an inverter just to the ring circuit of lights to do that, (my cousin an electrician, would dare do it myself). |

Don't touch the mains wiring if you're not sure what to do, it just isn't worth it. A telly and DVD will run off a 300 Watt inverter, she may cut out a couple of times till the CRT in the TV is charged and the de-gausing coil stops trying to operate but will go eventually. If you have electronics knowledge voltage regs are easy to make. If like most people electricity is witch craft to you then you will be best to buy one.
