Here in the U.K it is raining constantly - It's July....

It's starting to annoy me now, I wonder if I can harness any power from the collected roof water that then runs down the drain pipe at quite some rate?

Any other hydro power ideas?

Ben.

I'm feeling guilty!! We've had a lovely weekend in West Scotland, there has been hardly any rain and my solar panels have been eating up the sunshine!!
So if its raining permanently on you Ben, a hydro turbine in your guttering downpipe would be effective...specially if you live in a terrace and have 3 houses feeding the pipe!

I know how you fell with the rain. I refuse to own a car and ride a motorcycle all year round. Better for congestion and the environment and other reasons. The usuall summer commute to work has been a wet one since may. I think you would need alot of water to get any real power out of it.

A small turbine in the downpipe perhaps?

I think the main pronblem would be obtaining a large enough supply to run a turbine - is your garden big enough for a reservoir?

Personally I think you are better off setiing up a water but or similar rain capture system and using wind power to pump it around the garden or as a domestic supply for non-potable usage.

BTW Phil, I live in the north of Spain, and it's wet and grey here too, although the rest of the country is "Scorchio" ;)

What about collecting the water, then using a wind turbine to generate electricity, then using the generated electricity to split the water by electrolysis into hydrogen and oxygen, then storing the hydrogen and converting a vehicle to run on it?

Simple, eh?

DC electrolysis is a very ineficient way to produce hydrogen. High frequency pulsed 'splitting' gives massive increase in return compared to DC electrolysis. Stanley Meyer's patent design for hydrogen production from water gives very large quantities of gas per ampere of current.
