Hi Forum Members I have come across your website for the first time today, while trying to find out more about costs etc. of the installation of a home wind turbine. I would like to add to the discussion, by raising the concern, that the creation of a relatively, exceptionally strong (variable) magnetic field might affect the wellbeing people placed (living / working / sleeping) physically close (or right within the [magnetic] turbulence of the field). Does any of my fellow participants, here or someone possibly stimulated to also contribute, know anything substantial about the extent / magnitude / relevance of the issue and perhaps the need for some form of (effective) shielding? Regards and a good day to all of you Norbert

| I would really not worry about magnetic fields as they are actually very small.I made a magnetic detector and it could measure nothing about 15cm away from a neodmyium magnet. This distance is less than the distance to the edge of the blades and the wind generator should be mounted on a tower which will even lessen the magnetic field to probably less than the earths magnetic field. The dynohub and Ametek generators on this webiste use ceramic magnets(even less powerful). I myself do not believe that there is any harmful effect from magnets. |

Hello Norbert, and welcome. I have to agree with fungus, I've never read about any problems with magnetic field effects from wind generators. |

| Hi Norbert. To allay you concerns, just take a pocket compass and see which way it points, North, of course. Now, get as close as possible to the mast where a turbine would be and have another look, North again. This suggests that the earth's magnetic field is way stronger than anything in a turbine. Hope this helps. |
