I'm going to machine my own blade hub, but wanted to get some ideas as how to secure it to the shaft of my ametek 30vdc motor. Would set screws hold up???? Cheers, Seth

Does your machining run to keys and keyways?

If not a flattened potion of the shaft and a grub screw from the hub should do it. There won't be much lateral force on the hub to slide it off the shaft. The main concern is to stop it spinning on the shaft.

Or am I missing something vital?

Hi Tex,

If the input shaft of your gen unit is perfectly round as well as the output from your blade hub, I would be inclined to drill a hole through both (connected if possible) and use a drift pin to lock them together. Make sure you use some anti seize compound between components so that you can split them apart if need be.

If the drift pin starts moving out of position during operation of your turbine you could lock it in place with a hose clamp. If you ran into a situation where you gen unit seized, the drift pin would also act as a shear pin to some extent. The shear force would depend on the size and quality of the drift pin.

Just the way I would tackle that problem if it was my system.

Cheers!
