Hi Ben and all at gotwind,
Its been quite a while since I've posted anything, but I have been reading as often as I could.
My dynohub turbine is still spinning and lighting up a few leds in the garden.
I now have a little more time to spare to work on my new project.
I have a 170v dc permanent magnet motor rated at 2000 rpm and 300watts
I think this might make an excellent project the only trouble is....................................................
I need an arbour or a link to where I can but one or get one made ( Johnny are you listening)
Feel free to pm me.
Cash waiting.
Sundowner.

Hi Sundowner. That new motor sounds like a good candidate for a turbine, a 12v cut-in at around 150 - 200 rpm. So you could use larger blades, maybe up to 5 ft diameter.
I would think any local engineering workshop with a lathe could turn you an arbor for you, or Johnny if he's about.

Thanks Jonnny,
I'll measure the shaft and let you know the size.
I have 2 of these motors so I'll be looking for 2 arbours.
Regards,
Fries.

Hi Ben and all at gotwind,
I'm not forgetting the measurements for that arbour Jonny. I contacted the company that supplied these motors that I have to see if they have any more in stock.
If they are as I suspect a very suitable choice for a DIY turbine I hope to have them post their availability on this forum for all members to purchase.
If they have the motors I'm hoping they can supply the arbour also. If they have the motors and no arbours then it looks like Jonny might be able to earn a few bob making the arbours.

Hi Sundowner and everyone else,
Could you please give me the name of the motors as I live in Australia and I will look for them here.

Hi James,
There is no name on the motor. I contacted the company that distributes them in the UK and Ireland. I'm waiting for them to get back to me with a price and a spec sheet.
My logic is that if I can put a spec sheet up here, far greater brains than I will be able to tell me if its worth proceeding with my little project.

Thanks Sundowner for such a quick response,
Thankyou for going out of your way by contacting the company, finding spec sheets etc.

Hi Ben and everyone at gotwind.
I measured the shaft of this motor and it is 11mm in diameter with a keyway and its approx 25mm in length.
I also got a spec sheet ( I couldn't understand most of the technical stuff and couldn't find my motor on the sheet but they told me that they can still supply it) back from the company that supplied this motor and they quoted me a price of 125 british pounds with a 3 to 4 week delivery time. ( this was for one unit).
The best thing I reckon I can do at this stage is to get this one up and running and see if it performs.
The way I see it, PVC blades, Diy Hub, Jonny made arbour, mounting bracket, Sundowner slip rings(yeah I've that one figured out for us DIYers) and a few other bits and bobs would still make it very economical to build as opposed to buying a chinese turbine.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this.
P.S. its a UK supplier of the motor so that would or should make it easy for Ben to provide in his shop on here.
