My Navitron wind turbine turned up yesterday. First impression is of a well built machine with a very powerfull PMA. I can mount the alternator but can't get it running yet as they neglected to send me the tail section that connects the fin to the alternator. Have emailed them with no reply as of yet but hopefully will hear something soon.

Will also have my home built one done soon when my treadmill motor turns up.

Wind turbines are addictive. Alot of people I know now want one, that's a good thing.

Now it's time to buy a battery a month to start storing as much energy as I can. I found some very robust heavy duty 120 AH jobs at my local motor spares supplier for £80. All the leisure batteries I found say 100 AH but on closer inspection are rated as 100 AH over 10 hours. They will quickly fail under continual high current loading. I have gone with super heavy duty tractor batteries so will just have to make sure my load stops drawing current before the voltage drops too low and they will last years.

II81, You might want to search out warehouses that run electric forklifts. The batteries that are not good enough to run the high demand of a busy forklift for an 8 hour shift are sold as scrap. The still have enough capacity for domestic power use for many years with proper maintenance. It beats the heck out of paying retail for golf cart batteries, but is still a pretty big pill to swallow.

Just food for thought.

Good purchase II81, I will eventually buy a Navitron turbine.I think they can be a bit noisy, but I believe Ivan (Navitron) sells quieter blades.

You might need a few people to help you erect it...
I put a video on youtube for you to get an idea, it was recorded off 'Its not easy being green on BBC TV.

We live at an old farm house with some tall sheds that used to house tractors and combines, the sheds are made of solid concrete beams. I am going to attach it to one of the apexes with a piece of substantial steel channel so should be able to mount it on my own.
