Ahem...sorry.. Finally managed to test out my new turbine today complete with updated vanes. Many thanks for the plans, they worked a dream!
Right, I have one question. I am intending on using my generator to keep a leisure battery topped up whilst we are away caravaning. Do I need a regulator of some description between the genny and the battery as I noticed that in some gusts, I was spiking at 15 volts?!
All input gratefully received, please be advised that you are not talking to a brain surgeon, i.e. keep it simple
You most certainly do. A load dump is best as it will keep the turbine loaded up so slowing the thing down in heavy winds preventing destruction. They are cheap enough to buy if you're not technically minded.
GreenBard. I am assuming you are using the dynohub? 0.5A max output. At these small charging currents they produce, and with a reasonably sized lead acid battery - 20A/h +, a charge controller isn't really needed. Members welcome to correct me, not a problem - I am also learning.
