Interesting. It's blowing a gale here in lincolnshire. My battereies are full and my load dump was coming on in gusts (holds voltage limit well). However my turbine was flawed and I have had to take it down as I could see it self destructing. Never mind I will just build it bigger and better. It's going up higher as well when I re-do it.

Good work super windy.
A word of warning regarding the jubilee clips you've used to hold the motor on.
They can fatigue and snap quite easily, they will last for a bit, but I would suggest using U-bolts made from 6mm threaded rod (all thread in U.S)
Don't over tighten them though, as you could distort the motor casing and damage the magnets within the motor.
Ben.

What about using exhaust clamps. They come in a variety of sizes and cheap. Would be perfect for such an application.

Hey superwindy,
I do like your video posts, they really do add something extra.
I agree about the jubilee clips. On my Ametek chassis I have a front plate mounted on angle iron so I can use the four tapped holes in the motor to secure it to the chassis. I'll have to do some close up pics soon so you can see.
U bolts are certainly better than jubilee clips, but I concur with Ben on being careful not to overtighten them as there's always the possibility of distorting the motor casing.
One thing I did notice on your design - is it not a tad front heavy? If it is it will put weight on one side of the chair bearing and wear it prematurely and it will also mean that your tower / mounting pole will want to naturally lean to wherever the turbine is pointing, and it could try to work itself loose over time.
Cheers
Del. |
