Good idea Ben!
http://tinyurl.com/ Cut those everlasting URL's down to size. (like the one below)
http://tinyurl.com/3ysg24 Wind energy Encyclopedia
http://www.weatherstats.ca/ You can find wind speeds for several cities.
(just in case there are some more Canucks lurking)

Cheers!
BW

For the "Electronically Challenged" this might prove helpful, "Semiconductor Tutorials"

A link to electronic spec sheets.
http://tinyurl.com/26w4jf

A whole bunch of stuff concerning turbines and design.
http://www.educypedia.be/education/windturbines.htm

All you ever wanted to know about batteries!

I hope it helps,

This site contains all the wind data for Canada and includes wind info for 3 different heights. It also includes a calculator that will tell you what the yearly power output of your wiind turbine will be.

http://www.windatlas.ca/en/index.php

Here's the wind speed atlas for USA provided by Bergey.

http://www.bergey.com/wind_maps.htm

And here's my website with plans, instructions and photos of an 8 foot diameter wind turbine I built. As well as info on: DIY solar batch water preheater, DIY rain barrels, and more "green" related articles.

Hope you like it.

An interesting site about battery powered motor controllers primarily, but has a lot of potentially useful information. Hef.

My interest is in making systems using many small windmills and maybe stepper motors.

Here is the first URL of my collection which, serendipitously, is at this forum's host domain: http://gotwind.org/diy/stepper_motor.htm Some valuable stuff. Thank you gotwind.org .

Here's another forum's entry with pictures of a DIY Wind generator using a stepper motor, only a little over 2 watts apparently: http://forum.itawk.com:88/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1211764616/
