Will a round hub hinder the performance of the DIY 4' Diameter Blades? I have installed a set of 4' DIY blades on my Ametek 30 Generator. We have had some pretty good winds (20mph+) the last couple of days and the Generator seems like it does not want to get past a certain rpm. Everything is balanced and is very smooth. All I can get is 9v burst out of it with no load. I have tried 2 Ameteks and both perform the same.
I had previously a set of 6' PVC blades on and got +15v in a 15 mph wind. I had to get rid of the 6’ blades because they had a lot of flex and were unsafe. And was thinking the smaller blades would give more Voltage because of the higher RPM.
I think the round hub that I am using is restricting the airflow somehow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Four foot blades on an Ametek! That's an eight foot blade diameter. Now I know everything is bigger in the USA, but I think you've supersized your turbine beyond what is required for the little Ametek.
Try a slightly more conservatvive approach and reduce your blades to a couple of feet in length.
How big is your hub?
I'd love to see a picture of your 4' blades on your Ametek.
This is a bit confusing EasternShoreVA I assume you are referring to blade length?, if so try a 2 ft blade length i.e 4 ft diameter as the rest of us do.
Yes, I meant Diameter. Today I made a hub like Ben showed in his plans and so far it seems to be doing a bit better. But not much wind right now to tell for sure. Ill let ya know!
