Hi all,
I have finally got round to joining the forum although I have been reading the posts with great interest for some time.
My interest in renewables started last year when I got some solar panels which I have set up on my shed roof. Since then I have built a couple of turbines, one failed attempt using bicycle dynamos and one successful one using a dynohub and a solar water heater.
I have recently managed to get hold of a Quadra Performance Drive Treadmill motor 1940 watts/2.6HP which will be my next project. My dynohub turbine has limited start up with only 3 blades at ~ 36 inch diameter. This time I a planning to go with five or seven blades at 48 inches. I want this one to spin and make 12v+ as much as possible, higher voltages are of little use.
Unfortunately, my location isn't great but if I can make enough power between solar and wind to keep the 110ah battery charged up, I will be happy.
Any advice on voltage regulation, charge controllers etc much appreciated.

Hi Chris.
Your treadmill should deliver what you require, you will have to get a fairly fast set of blades, 3 bladers are quicker than five or seven blades - less resistance.
Be prepared to cut the 48" diameter down a bit to get more speed.
I wouldn't worry about regulation, the battery will take care of any over voltage (if any), you may want to look at Ghurds charge controler, that can be bought cheaply and needs building up.
