Here is my specifications for my ameteks I hope to use for wind turbine use in the spring.

Can anyone tell me if they are any good? Both usints are brand new from surplus storage.

38 VDC
Max Current 12 Amps
No load Amperage 0.2 Amps
No load RPM 1150
Shaft Dia. is 5/8" dia x 1-1/4" smooth
Auxillary Rear Shaft 3/16" dia x 3/8"
Motor Size 4" Dia. x 4-1/2" Long

I think with my windy location I may be able to get around 15 volts from these....

Any help and comments appreciated!!

ok i`m away for a 16 hour shift!!

hi vic
i brought the same model of a guy in america who sells them on e bay. i have had some great results from mine saw it reach nearly 7 amps sometimes. i wish it was up at the moment as were having proper wind the last week i just need to get round to making blades but cant seem to find time
shame there isnt a member of the forum up for making blades and selling them as ime sure there would be a demand
anyway vic get to work on the new ametek look forward to seeing it up and running for spring

i agree with keith above, i wish there was someone on here making blades, i would buy a set, perhaps someone should design a really good set, i too cant find the time to do anything what with working, smallholding and my cottage renovation thats going to be starting soon,

i bought my ametek 38 from the same guy in america, i saw 39volts from mine two weeks ago, i have recieved my charge controller from fungus and i am awaiting my blocking diodes, i will then wire the whole lot up and hopefully run all my lights in my barn via a 150w inverter ,

someone supplying a tidy set of blades would be good though

hi agrifab
wow 39 volts thats taking it to the max must of been pumping about 12 amps . do you think our motors whould burn out if they were to be pushed to the max for a period say a couple of hours or should they be capable of spinning max speed

im not really sure, have they got brushes? if so do they wear out? ive got my wind turbine situated on top of my barn roof but theres trees all around so the wind is very 'choppy' i will have to take photos and perhaps a video when its all set up..

I've never seen more than 'about' 6A (it pegged my 5A meter..) from my ametek 38 with good blades so it seems to be about the limit.

I can produce blades for people at a later date. Bens ones are great ,but are designed for the Dynohub and work great. Maybe a new shape based on superwindys design plus some type of meter for testing the speed and fast start of the blades.....

I`m sure I could make a pile of blades up at low costs.Basically it`s the postage and packing that would be a killer.

I`ll see what I can do as I love making blades.

Once the ameteks built and working i`ll do a test on the hill nearby my house. it`s 200 meters higher than my house and very good for testing the turbines out....

I think last year i was pushing over 1.5amps on a decent dynohub!! But that taking it to the extreme!! As for the ametek a good hill is the only way to test out its entire performance in a decent wind..

I purchased 2 ameteks.... 1 for use 1 for a spare......

I have 2 dynohub turbines in the garden at the moment doing ok.
