Well had a try with the benesh on a 4.5m pole, base mounted on pivot, middle mount against wall and top of pole free.
Problem is on start up of the turbine I get a resonance down the pole.
Any thoughts on how to stop / damp it before it pulls the garage down?

Regards
Chris

Oh, meant to say, I know guy ropes would do it, but want to be able to raise and lower it easily so was looking at best way to strengthen the pole.

Hi Chris.
A photo would be useful, I can't really visualise your predicament.

Rubber mounts perhaps - not sure without seeing it.

Ben.

When I used to be a structural draughtsman we used to use neoprene/rubber packs on the buildings I drew so people could move into one part of the building whilst construction work was carried out on the other part without the acoustic or vibration bothering those who had already moved in (usually expensive apartments). These were between 50-25 mm thick, so you should get away with 10mm thick rubber I would presume if this is the problem.

Well after a couple of hours thinking, I went out and spent £20 on guy ropes and tensioners, but now the wind has stopped so I can't tell if it works.....

The above is a classic case of "Sod's Law"!
As for the resonance, adding some weight i.e. a band of sheet lead (held on with jubilee clips)around the pole at the point where the resonance is worse may cure it, as the weight acts as a damper. Hef
