well as promised some new photos of my futurenergy setup, i have been busy ploughing this last 2 weeks but have still had the odd hour to experiment with my blades, by the way i have a set of fibre glass blades being made at the moment by the guy brambleshane on ebay, (he makes the 4ft fibreglass ones) but so far even with my blade setup, i'm well pleased, even the slightest breeze and its turning, and from the times i have checked the ammeter its just a nice steady 6-10A, the furling system i made sems to work a treat. in fact i'm well pleased with it. oh by the way i managed to get a good second hand hydro pole, so thats for my new mast, once i get the blades sorted out.oh and the 150A alternator rectifier block is working a treat, though once i get a reasonable speed out of it i must work on a cooling fan for the it,even now at this low power it does get warm.
Notice how flat and open my location is, thats how i can bend scaffold poles.....lol.

Great posting, thanks.
Looks like you have quite a hybrid of wood and carbon fiber blades going on.
I'm no expert, but I would be a little concerned about the wooden blades - they are going to fracture and fly off and hit something/someone, in my opinion.
You have probably one of the best locations to test the Futurenergy alternators.

Hi Ben.
Firstly thanks for the nice comments, yes the blades i made from some marine ply i had laying around, the funny thing they may be crude but they work, as i pointed out it just whirls away in even the slightest breeze. but once i get the new fibre glass blades on her and running i'll post you all my findings.
I was seriously tempted to get a set of the proper blades, but at £170.00? and then its your responsibility to balance them, geeeezzzz what a cheek, i'd expect them to be factory balanced at that sort of money..lol. so i had a word with the guy on ebay and he is now making me a set, infact he will test them on his futurenergy pma, and at less than half inc. delivery i think thats good value ben, after all we are all trying to save money, oh by the way i got one of those meters from maplins, wow its scarey how much some appliances cost to run.

excellent work donniedingle, well impressed, 6 to 10 amps is that with a 12v or 24v set up.

Thanks for the comments,yes i run a 12V setup, and hopefully when my new blades arrive i'll be hoping to see an increase in output, i am aiming to see what i really can extract from this unit compared to my 2 chinese 200W units that regularly produce 25A plus. I benefit from an open location and regular gales up here, so i'm well placed to get a good output ....lol.

Unfortunatly we have been sat under a high pressure cylone these last 2 weeks Del, and not had a great lot of wind, but i used the formula from the site in my other posting, and touch wood, it seems to be right. did you notice the gate gudgeon i used to mount the pmg, just prised her open a bit and drilled a couple of holes for pinch bolts, and its a dam good tight mounting on the shaft.

Yes I did notice the strap hinge. Cracking idea.
I've got a similar bit of square tube to build my chassis from. Does yours just slip over a scaffold pole? Do I see something between the pole and the square tubing?
I'm intending to play about with the weight of my tail section so that it furls at 600 to 700W. I'd rather not run the unit at its maximum intended output just out of mechanical / electrical sympathy and so that I've not got huge amounts of amps being pumped into my UPS gel batteries.
I was lucky in getting a secondhand set of Futurenergy blades for £92 delivered from ebay a few weeks ago. They are really nice but I don't think I'd spend £170 on them.

Basically i only had a wee piece of pipe to fit over the scaffold pole,so i cut it in half and then used 2 lengths of angle iron, and used the pipe as bushings at either end of the angle iron, and having it a longer length on the scaffold pole it seems to be more structually stable (big word that), as for the furling tail i thought that it was not working, but on inspection, its been swung round to max a few times, i noticed it had marked the new paint, so yes it must work, but at what forces etc i'm just not sure.
The price for your blades was about a fair price, like i say i think at £171.00 they are expensive.
As for my battery bank i'm hoping to add another 400A capacity, but i have had no trouble with the amount of charge going into into them, but i do believe a 1000A capacity can readily absorb all that the pmg can put into it. And this winter i put all my tractor batteries on a tempory bank and they are all fully charged, which is a great bonus to me up here.
