Ok, I like to say that I have managed to build a little Voltage doubler (from Maplin).
Yesterday I connected all the parts, the 12V battery was at 8.7V.

You may noticed that yesterday evening was windy.... today I tested the battery and is now at 11.3V, so I think it is working some how! :0).

I'm pleased!.... soon I will finally be able to charge my mobile-phone.
Hope Jonny will read this message... I'm interested to buy from you a hub, possibly in aluminum... i sent you a private message with the size of my arbour. Please let me know.

Kind regards to all

oliver

Hi Oliver,
Well done, its a great feeling when you see the meter start to climb, and then you know your harvesting that free power.

Oliver.
I think that if a 12v battery is reading 8.7 volts it is pretty much dead and not much use.
Clarification by others would be helpful.

yes i'd agree with you there ben, i'd try charging it by other means too and see if it will take a charge, only delicate components in that circuit and a shame to burn it out due to a duff battery.

I don't think the battery is dead.
I bought it new at Maplin..... how come you think is dead?, I have used it twice in my room with a bicycle light in the evening and discharge it with the light all day long.

Anyway I tested again the battery this morning and is still 11.2V, so not 12V yet

Regards

oliver

I think Ben is refering to lead acid or gel batteries which at 10.5 volts would be considered 100% discharged was the battery sold to you with a full charge if so then you have over disscharged it I would recommend only disscharging 50% down to 12.2v this will give longer battery life

Oliver.
A little homework is required.
Sorry to sound negative, but most information is just a Google search away, this for example.
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/index.htm

I will admit, I am one of the worst for wanting a quick answer, but sometimes you have to read and understand a few basics to move on further.

I am still learning, daily thanks to others and my best friend Google...
I set my homepage to Google - I am always surprised that friends I have that don't.

Ben.
