Poll Question:
Should we make the gotwind forum posts readable only upon log in? We're getting approx 30 guests to 2 logged in members at the moment. Some people call guests lurkers. It doesn't bother me either way.
Ben.

| If I hadn't been able to view the forum and realise just how much experience and advice was available from the members of Gotwind, I probably wouldn't have joined "on spec". I realise that lurkers eat bandwidth but would suggest that they might perhaps be viewed as an untapped potential resource rather than wasters! |

Good point Tim, I think I know which way the poll will go. Just thought I would get a consensus. |

I agree with Tim before I joined I went through lots of posts is there any way you can allow the viewing of say 30 pages before a user needs to log in as you can in phpBB |

| Fully agree with Tim. Any new member is going to join because of the forum and if they can't view it there's not much point of being a guest on the site, and it's extremely unlikely that someone is going to register without seeing the point and benefit of the site. |

To this day I don't log in unless I have something to ask or add. Steady as she goes Ben, she's a good ship now.
Cheers! BW

Hi Ben,
I was maybe the most obsessive lurker here, before I signed up. I wouldn't change the forum as you have it now.
If you want to get more people to log in to count page hits, you could always close certain areas of the site, but not the question and answer pages.

I also stop in for a quick look. Anywhere that wants my email to have a look... doesn't get my email.
"untapped potential resource". You should see the stuff people build that lurk, and never post or register. I get email photos of some very impressive systems and interesting meathods to solve common problems. I encourage them to post. Some do, some don't. G- |

If you want to encourage people to login, why not give them the opportunity from your homepage?
Great Forum, Thanks,

Hi Ben! I just joined after "lurking" as well. I guess the only real reason for having LOGIN anyway is for administration reasons such as kicking members out or setting rules for order. Otherwise a knowledge forum like this should be as wide open as any library. Great job on the site!
