Just spent 330 U.K pounds ($660 approx) on a 'bare bones' PC kit. Microsoft Vista, 2.0 Ghz Pentium dual core, 2 Gb Ram, 500 Gb Hard drive.
I was a little concerned about the compatibility of some programs as used with the old faithful XP for 4 years. Contrary to some scare mongers, it works very well, very similar to XP really.
If treated with care, a good firewall, anti virus and using sensible browser programs such as firefox, the latest microsoft operating system is probably the best in my oppinion.
I'm no expert obviously - just thought I would share my findings.
I have been using the same machine since 1999.My mate has went through about 8 machines in that time...the world must be full of computer scrap and I bet you it`s lying in some 3rd world country causing an enviromental disaster..
