Hi all,
1st time posting, hope you can help.
I'm making a DIY turbine, and I've got a Crouzet DC motor that I'm hoping to use. I've been using an Eagletree data logger that's designed for RC planes etc. and not being great with electronics I can't understand the current output!
The motor's connected to a 5W bulb. I've got a RPM sensor fitted too. I've been testing the motor with a drill, and I can get up to 10V, with the RPM and Voltage going up proportionally, and the bulb lighting. But the current only appears erratically. It will go up to 0.25A, but only briefly and occasionally. I seem to get only 0.25A no matter what RPM or voltage I see.
I thought it was due to being AC, so I bought a silicon bridge rectifier as mentioned on the gotwind site. But this seems to make no difference - I get the same output graphs.
Bit of a noob so sorry if I've missed something obvious!

Hello Chunkymonkey and welcome.
This sounds a bit odd to me.
If it is a DC motor, with brushes and commutator it will not require rectification.
250 mA is very low in terms of power.
What drill are you using, more importantly what is its max rpm - I have a mains drill that spins up to 2000 rpm, way out of the scope of a wind powered propeller.
Have you got the correct DC amps setting on your multimeter and are all connections 'sound' (secure)?
Does it light the 5w bulb, and if so at what voltage is the bulb rated at and at what rpm?
