For the past year I been working on a wind turbine based on an Ametek like genny. The motor is about the size as the Ametek, but almost double the length. It produces 14v at 400RPM and 45V at 1200RPM. I originally had some PCV blades on it, but they had a thin root and were way too long. They didn’t work well and one snapped, so I got a pair of aluminum blades with a wider root. These blades work much better and start spinning in a light wind. The issue is that it takes around a 15Mph wind to hit the 12v cut in. I tried using two blades instead of three and that helped the top end in high winds, but in light winds the turbine would quickly stop after the breeze momentarily died down. The issue is that the turbine rarely sees 12V but on most days it sees from 6-10v. I am not sure if I should work on a voltage booster to try a different set of blades. I would still like to trickle charge on days with light wind so I am leaning towards the voltage booster. Below are the pictures of the turbine with the two blade setup, which I have since changed back the three.

Thanks

Looks good needbb

If it is the same as the Ametek, only loger it could be the 50v unit or even the holy grail of Ameteks the 99 model (very rare).
Your blades look a bit like Terrys TLG wind power blades

Two blades will spin faster than 3 generally, but less torque as you suggest.

Ben.

One Question that might be of use to this post. The blades look longer than the ones i use on my dynohub. If you make smaller blades you might get more rpm in light winds.Just a thought worth trying.

gotwind it is not an Ametek, but similar in size to the Ametek 50V model. Around 200RPM's it shorted amperage was around 5A, so it pretty powerful motor. The blades are 30" long so the diameter is 5Ft.
