Hey guys, long time I know, to be honest been happy with the old dynamo charging my caravan battery for a while but now want to get bigger, ok so I want to watch tv some weekends

Question for the electrics gurus;
I've read a lot about folk using DC PM motors to make their own generators, thinking that this might be something I want to look at, but as usual having little on the cash side, I came across an old 240 volt motor from a deceased tumble drier. My question is could this be used to make 12 volts or would it fry my battery?! Is there something I can do to gear down the voltage or is this a lost cause?

Hey, I never claimed to be intelligent

Hi Pete
I'm not an electrician or anything but I think I may have asked a SIMILAR question to yours a while back. The type of motor in the washing machine would probably need some sort of power source to make it work (on top of the wind power) because there would probably be no magnets in the motor (ie the motor in question is probably not a permanent magnet motor but rather a electro-magnet).
Cheers!
Steve
