What would be the best (largest) DC voltage that could be used to charge a 12 volt battery bank?

14, 18, 24 volts?

Would more then 24 volts going into the battery bank charge the bank faster and is this possible?

Thanks

Too vague.
By the way the question is worded, there is no choice. It is a fixed value equal to the battery voltage.
(Kirchoff's Law)

Anything over the battery voltage will charge the battery.

Guessing this is about a windmill. The higher the speed of the generator, the higher the unloaded voltage, and the faster it will charge the battery.

Too high of a voltage usually means many loops of wire, many loops means small wire.
Many loops of small wire means high resistance. High resistance means less amps. Meaning often a high voltage motor has too much resistance to supply many amps.

The DC voltage charging the battery will always be the same as the battery voltage (plus 0.7V or 1.4V for the diodes).
If the open voltage is 24V, it will still be the battery voltage when it is connected to the battery.

If you mean what voltage of PM DC motor, it depends on the motor.
Some 20V motors work well. Some 240V work well. Some in between work well.
And some don't.

This is what I needed ("Anything over the battery voltage will charge the battery.")

Thanks alot!

I was not sure if putting say 24 volts into a 12 volt battery from the genny would wreck it or not. Or if putting 240volts into a genny at one time would wreck it but you answered the question great!

I appreciate it.

Thanks again.
