When this is passed wind turbines will be as common as satellite dishes in the UK. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/professionals/en/1115315495735.html
What will it mean for present turbine manufacturers/sellers?
The ones selling small self fitting units will not be able to cope with all the drop/ship companies that will spring up. Look at a typical 500w/1000w turbine how much "SHOULD" they cost? I would say about £150 for the turbine and controller. We all know how much they are right now.
The only companies that will survive this will be the ones that fit the huge turbines that you can't build or install yourself. As soon as its said on the news that anyone can have a turbine without any planning there will be an explosion. Within 3 weeks of mine going up 2 more have appeared in my lane since.

Interesting.
I can't really think of any decent turbines available now that are under 2m in diameter, even the Chinese 'Bergy' 500w copy is 2.5m diameter.

maybe they are basing the 2m max figure on the windsave turbine at 1.75m - and that is not cheap..

I've just suffered the dreaded planning enforcement officer.
Was served with a 28 day notice to either put in for planning, take down, or suffer court action. The Doctor opposite reported me ("because they made David Cameron take his down"). He won't do it again I've pointed out a major infringement on his property :-) So once I've been inspected again I can do as I like.
I want 1kw at least though next time.
One thing about the new regs which is a bit disturbing is the fact that most people will have to fix to their houses as 12m from a border for free standing is huge.

Well if they don't scrap planning regs next week for home turbines when they announce new measures to save energy, someone wants rogering with a red hot poker

They kept that one quiet Shawn! Is there a link you could post?

Mounting to house, that would probably kill most DIY turbines as an option, given that they aren't factory-balanced, and many of them would need to be more heavily maintained than a commercial fit&forget unit.

Unless one lives in a bungalow of course. Sigh.

A link to the proposed new regs are in the top post on a .GOV website.
They might change some of the limits when it becomes law but if this does not get passed next week I can't see it getting through with this government.
